Everything You

Need to Know

DIY smart homes use consumer-level platforms such as Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Apple Home/Siri, and IFTTT to control connected devices. These systems typically work through smartphone apps or smart speakers like the Amazon Echo or Google Nest Hub. One of the biggest advantages of these setups is their flexibility - it’s easy to add compatible devices over time to meet changing needs.

Dream Motors are compatible with major DIY smart home platforms when used with a DreamHub and the Dream Connector app. Important: Be sure to set up your Dream Hub and Connector app before integrating with any smart home platform. You can find setup instructions for your Dream Hub here.

Professional systems are typically installed by certified technicians and offer centralised control of lighting, climate, audio/visual equipment, and motorised blinds or shades. Systems like Control4, Crestron, Lutron, KNX etc. fall into this category. Dream Motors integrate with these platforms in three primary ways: Wireless, dry contact, and wired.

Wireless integration

For the most seamless experience, Dream Motors can wirelessly connect to leading professional automation systems through the DreamHub and dedicated drivers. These drivers enable bi-directional communication, allowing your smart system to read real-time motor status, including:

• Current blind position

• Battery level (for battery-powered motors)

• Precision control of blind movement

This is an ideal solution for both new installations and retrofit projects where battery-powered blinds are preferred, but integration with the main smart home system is still desired.

Drivers are developed by Chowmain Software, a recognized leader in smart home integration. The Dooya drivers listed below are fully compatible with Dream Motors.

Note: All Dream Motors (except the Roller 45 Wired motor) support wireless integration when used with the DreamHub.

Dry Contact Integration

For systems requiring Low Voltage Dry Contact switching, the Roller 45 Mains/RJ12 motor supports integration through a dry contact cable. This setup allows you to trigger blind movement using a compatible actuator or relay from the home automation controller. Systems that commonly use this method are Control4, Rako, Loxone and Lutron (Important: see notes in summary tab).

Wired Integration

The Roller 45 Wired motor includes a four-core mains connection suitable for direct integration with professional systems that support Mains Voltage control of blinds. This type of setup is common in more complex installations requiring robust and permanent connections. Systems that commonly support Mains Voltage control are Control4, Rako, Loxone and KNX (Important: see notes in summary tab).

As shown in the table, some home automation systems can be configured in different ways. It is therefore essential that the correct control method (wireless, volt-free/dry contact, or wired) is confirmed before selecting a motor.

While every effort has been made to ensure these recommendations are accurate, wiring diagrams and system configurations must always be verified with the smart home installer prior to final confirmation. Control systems can vary significantly in their setup, and these variables are outside of Decorquip’s control.

Final Tips

• Always ensure your Dream Hub firmware and Connector app are up to date before integrating with third-party platforms.

• Consider your home’s infrastructure (wired vs. wireless, voltage compatibility) when selecting motor types.

• For best results with professional systems, consult with an installer familiar with both Dream Motors and your chosen smart home ecosystem.
