We’re proud to announce that we have partnered with Somfy to offer their motors as an option in our made-to-measure roller and Roman blinds. Right now!

Of course, Somfy is an internationally renowned brand, with a huge range of home automation products available but motorised shading is still at the heart of what they do. For those of you who may not know who Somfy is, what makes their motors so popular or why you should consider including them in your blinds, here’s a quick breakdown.

Who is Somfy?

A French group of companies founded in 1969, Somfy has spent 50 years establishing itself as one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of controllers and motors for gates, garage doors, blinds and awnings.

In recent years, they have built on this with the introduction of a growing suite of smart home and security products. In fact, they have become so prominent in the smart home industry, they are a members of home automation committees such as Matter, Thread Group and the Connectivity Standards Alliance. But more on that later.

It could be said that Somfy came into existence when its founders developed and manufactured the first precision tubular motor for a local awning manufacturer. Since then, they’ve been at the forefront of evolution of tubular motors for blinds, producing incredibly reliable and efficient motors for millions of homes and workspaces across the world.

What Products are Available?

As you’d hopefully expect, we’re keeping ourselves to just the blinds-related Somfy products. In particular, motors and controls for roller and Roman blinds. In short, this means that you can now get the Decorquip made-to-measure experience that you know with the Somfy motors built right into the blind. From the outside you’ll not see any difference but, especially if the Somfy brand is important to your clients, you’ll have DQ blinds that can tie into a Somfy control ecosystem.

Here is the current product list available:

Which Motor is Right for my Blind?

Good question. Unfortunately, I can’t answer that! With the wealth of motors and controls available, it’s going to take our marketing team a very long time to produce enough content to cover it all! For now, if you’re not up to speed on which motors to use with different roller blind tube sizes for instance, give us a call or drop us an email. At the moment, the brains in our workshop have the best experience and we can make recommendations on a per case basis. Alternatively, head over to the source: somfy.com -they have an abundance of amazing guides, instructions, videos etc that will make you an expert in no time.

Why Somfy?

Each of our customers could have their own reasons for opting to add Somfy motors and controls to their Decorquip blinds. Brand recognition alone is hugely important. There are few brands in the blinds industry that have managed to break through to the general public but Somfy is definitely one of them.

For us to bring Somfy into our offering, we had to be sure that the company, its brand and, of course, its products aligned with our values and company mission. In order to make buying blinds enjoyable, we have to be sure that the products we provide you with are of great quality and value. With our own range of motors and controls available, it could be easy to see Somfy as a big competitor but, ultimately, what is important to us is that our customers get access to what they need in order to make their own clients happy.

So, with Somfy’s reputation for quality and reliability, and their brand recognition with end users, it became an easy decision to partner with them.

How Does it Work?

As it’s early day, we’re keeping things simple and making the Somfy products available as add-ons to our roller and Roman made-to-measure products. That means we’re not stocking inventory with the intent of selling it wholesale for now. Of course, we’ll be making items available for replacement etc.

To add Somfy products to your made-to-measure order will be a simple process. If you order online, you’ll find the motors and controls in the usual place and can simply tag them on your blinds as you would with any other Decorquip accessories.

Alternatively, our Customer Care team can help you over the phone or email. For pricing, check this year’s Trade Catalogue which is available now. If you don’t have it yet, get your free copy delivered or download one to check immediately.

That’s it for now. This is going to be a huge step for Decorquip and you – our customers. Somfy really is an excellent company with excellent products and we are so excited to be partnering with them as a distributor.

We’ll have lots more to say in the coming weeks and months, including guides and in-depth analysis of the products themselves. As a smart home enthusiast myself, just Somfy’s commitment to the new Matter framework that should be launching this year is so exciting and shows their ecosystem will be future proofed for years and years to come as the smart home industry and infrastructure matures.
